Successful Completion of Backup Control Groups With Empty *OUTQ

Learn about what BRMS Control Groups do when processing an empty *OUTQ or an *OUTQ where no new spooled files exist

An empty *OUTQ or an *OUTQ where no new spooled files exist is an expected condition.  When this condition happens during the processing of a BRMS control group, the following occurs:

  • BRMS will add message CPF3770 - "No objects saved or restored for library *SPLF" to the BRMS log and send completion message CPF3701- “0 objects saved from library *SPLF” to the job log.

  • BRMS will send completion message BRM1049 – “Control group &1 type *BKU processing is complete."

When using a spooled file list to save spooled files from a list of specified *OUTQ and no spooled files exist in an *OUTQ, a diagnostic message CPF3770 "No objects saved or restored for library *SPLF" message is entered in the BRMS log. This is also happens when an incremental backup runs and no new spooled files exist. This is described at IBM Support CPF3770 Logged When Saving Spooled File Lists via BRMS.

NOTE: In releases IBM i 7.2 and later, the following PTFs or their superseding PTFs are required:

  • 7.2 – SI72865

  • 7.3 – SI72866

  • 7.4 – SI72867
