Run Maintenance Every Day!
Run Maintenance every day!
Make efficient use of your media by running the Start Maintenance for BRM (STRMNTBRM
) command daily to expire media, remove history records for expired media, clean up temporary files, move media and manage journal receivers. The STRMNTBRM
command should be run as an independent job when no other BRM functions are active because it must lock and update critical BRMS files.
When run, the STRMNTBRM
command holds other active BRMS jobs to prevent conflicts during unique restricted maintenance tasks, releasing the jobs after each restricted task has been performed. This hold/release process may occur multiple times as the STRMNTBRM
command runs.
For BRMS interactive jobs, a BRM6714 status message is displayed indicating the job is held while the restricted maintenance process is running. After the restricted maintenance process ends, a BRM6716 message is displayed and the job resumes.
For BRMS batch jobs and BRMS GUI web jobs, BRMS sends a BRM6714 to the job log while the restricted maintenance process is running and the job is held. After the restricted maintenance process ends, a BRM6716 message is sent to the job log and the job resumes.
Be aware that the BRM6716 message does not mean all restricted maintenance processing is complete. The BRM6714 and BRM6716 messages may occur multiple times as the STRMNTBRM
command runs indicating the times the maintenance job runs a restricted process and times other jobs resume processing. STRMNTBRM
maintenance may hold the same jobs repeatedly to run multiple restricted processes. The STRMNTBRM
command sends a BRM1544 message to indicate that the maintenance procedure completed.
NOTES:
- BRMS maintenance must be run on all BRMS systems in the network. (Make running BRMS maintenance on all BRMS systems in the network a priority of your network management)
- Quiesce all BRMS activities on all systems in the BRMS network if movement is being run as part of maintenance (
STRMNTBRM MOVMED(*YES)
) - Do not run maintenance with MOVMED(*YES) or
MOVMEDBRM
on systems in a BRMS network at the same time maintenance is running on other systems in the BRMS network
