Cloud Remote Restores

Starting with the March 2018 BRMS PTFs, BRMS supports remote restoring of media from the cloud to a system that did not create the original save to the cloud location. Refer to the PTFs for the supported releases below.

Restoring from the cloud to a remote system

The BRMS Network feature component must be installed to restore from the cloud onto another system. The remote system does not need to be part of any BRMS network. The cloud connector names on the remote system, however, must match the cloud connector names of the source system that transferred the backup to the cloud. In addition, the volume status on the source system requires a status of *ACT and the location should be the cloud location prior to initiating the remote restore operation.

When performing a remote restore, BRMS automatically transfers the media to the remote system and completes the restore. After BRMS restores the data from the media, it will NOT automatically remove the media used in the restore operation. To clean up the media storage used in a remote restore, run the STRMNTBRM MOVMED(*YES) command on the remote system.

NOTES:

  1. Remote cloud restores are not supported when using WRKMEDBRM option 13 ‘Display contents’.

  2. Remote cloud restores are not supported when using the Retain Media After Transfers option until after the retention period has exceeded.

  3. If the remote system is not in the BRMS network, DDM communication still needs to be set up and established between the 2 systems.

  4. If the remote system is not in the BRMS network, cloud backups should only be done on one system to prevent the systems from generating the same volume names.
