BRMS and IBM Cloud Storage Solution for i Networking Feature
BRMS and IBM Cloud Storage Solution for i support for turnkey backups in a BRMS network is available in versions 7.3 and later with the following PTFs:
BRMS generates unique volume names for turnkey backups. To ensure duplicate volume names are not generated when any system in the BRMS network is in restricted state or when the BRMS network synchronization job is not working, use the Volume prefix on the System Policy to set a unique prefix for each system in a BRMS network.
Volume Prefixes
The Volume prefix on the System Policy field supports characters A-Z and 0-9 and allows a prefix length of 1 to 3 characters.
The following table offers a guide for selecting a volume prefix to use:
Prefix length | Maximum Number of Systems in BRMS Network | Maximum Number of Volumes per System |
1 | 36 | 32767 |
2 | 1296 | 10000 |
3 | 46656 | 1000 |
Backups will loop to find an open volume index before failing with message BRM148A to indicate that no media is available when the maximum number of volumes for the prefix length is reached.
