BRMS Software Installation Levels, Features, and Licensing Information
BRMS Standard 5770-BR1
BRMS provides the following functions in the base product:
Backup
- Backup planning interfaces
- On-line backup of Lotus server and journaled objects
- Automated backup capabilities
- Media library support for both IBM and third-party media libraries
- Parallel save capabilities
- Unattended restricted state backup
- Maintain complete backup history
Recovery
- System disaster recovery report
- Automated point-in-time recovery for Lotus server and journal objects
- Individual object recovery
- Automated recovery capabilities
Media Management
- Media reporting, tracking and selection
- Manage media movement
- Protect and secure media
- Duplicate media
- Reclaim fragmented media
BRMS Network Feature
With the BRMS Network Feature, a BRMS system connects to other BRMS systems in the network using native TCP/IP and/or APPN. A BRMS Network Feature system provides:
- The functionality included with the BRMS Standard product
- Centralized media management
- The ability to restore data from another system
BRMS Advanced Feature
The BRMS Advanced feature enables Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) archive with HSM dynamic retrieval and automated auxiliary storage pool (ASP) data migration. Some of the functions provided by HSM are:
- Automatic, transparent management of data across a storage hierarchy
- Migration of user libraries, folders, and spooled files between ASPs
- Archive (with storage free option)
- Dynamic retrieval
- Automatic movement of data, based on system policies
In addition, the BRMS Advanced feature is required to use the following functions in BRMS:
- Media library management
- BRMS System defined name
- Tape media library status tool
- Encrypting Data in BRMS
- IASP FlashCopy (For implementing user-defined Full System FlashCopy and IASP FlashCopy timestamps, review this document)
BRMS Subscription 5770-BR2
5770-BR2 is simplified to contain all functionality from 5770-BR1 under a single option.
Enhancements to BRMS Subscription Term
The following enhancements are available in BRMS Subscription Term (5770-BR2) 7.5 and 7.4. These enhancements are available in 5770-BR1 7.5 but not included in 5770-BR1 7.4.
Backup and restore enhancements:
The
SAVBRM
command parameter has the new default of ASYNCBRING(*YES)Backup control group support for IFS backups using
SAVACTOPT(*ALL)
.Backup control group entry support for Save active message queue library.
RSTLIBBRM has been enhanced with the STRJRN() and SELECT()parameters.
RSTOBJBRM has been enhanced with the STRJRN() parameter.
BRMS has been enhanced to support software data compression for tape and virtual tape.
Report and BRMS log enhancements:
Recovery report (QP1ARCY) steps have been enhanced to include cloud recovery support for Network Install Using Network File System(NFS) and using DSI VTL iSCSI attached devices.
PRTRPTBRM has been enhanced with an EXPDATE() parameter to select which records to include in the report.
DSPLOGBRM has been enhanced to support OUTPUT(*OUTFILE)and
OUTPUT(*OUTSTMF)
.
Media services enhancements:
WRKMEDBRM
has been enhanced to select multiple From locations and multiple Media class names.WRKMEDBRM has been enhanced to support OUTPUT(*OUTFILE)and
OUTPUT(*OUTSTMF)
.
Policy Enhancements:
WRKPCYBRM *SYS
option for BRMS to include all messages that occur during BRMS command processing in the BRMS log.WRKPCYBRM *RCY
WRKPCYBRM *BKU option for automatic virtual volume attributes.
SQL Services:
BRMS is introducing SQL Service interfaces as a new way to view, order, and subset BRMS information.
Security Enhancements:
The default for the BRMS shipped database is changing from *PUBLIC *USE authority to *PUBLIC *EXCLUDE.
The default authority for BRMS shipped functional usage is changing from default authority *ALLOWED to *DENIED. Use the
SETUSRBRM
command as a starting point to grant system operators and administrators access to BRMS functions and components. Then use the functional usage model to customize access by user.The
SETUSRBRM
command has been enhanced with the newUSAGE(*REMOVE)
parameter option to remove access to BRMS for a specified user (USER
) parameter.The default for BRMS APIs assigned functional authority is changing from *ALLOWED to *DENIED.
The data authority for BRMS shipped flight recording is changing from data authority *RWX to *WX.
APIs and Exit Program Enhancements:
Reclaim Media (Q1ARCLMED) API gives users the ability to programmatically reclaim a single tape volume.
Change Control Group Attributes (Q1ACHGCGA) API enables users to change programmatically the control group attributes.
Control Group exit program support for new format BKUI0200.
Miscellaneous Enhancements:
The Set Function using BRM (
SETFCNBRM
) command was introduced to add or remove miscellaneous functions in BRMS.The Display Function using BRM (
DSPFCNBRM
) command was introduced to display the status of miscellaneous functions in BRMS.
Hardware Support:
Added support for Ultrium 9 (LTO9) tape drives and media.
Added support for VTL iSCSI attached devices.
Added support for 3592-70F tape drives and media with new *FMT3592A7 and *FMT3592A7E densities.
