IBM Copy Services Manager Integration

PowerHA contains support for Copy Services Manager (CSM) Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and HyperSwap with Global Mirror.

IBM Copy Services Manager (CSM) is a strategic technology used to manage Metro Mirror or Global Mirror replication as well as other advanced storage capabilities. The integration of CSM with PowerHA for i enables PowerHA to support advanced functionality such as DS8000 HyperSwap with Global Mirror.

Supported sessions

PowerHA has integrated support for managing the following types of IBM DS8000 Sessions on Copy Services Manager:

PowerHA Session Type

Corresponding CSM Session Type

PowerHA Session Type

Corresponding CSM Session Type

Metro Mirror

Metro Mirror Failover/Failback

Global Mirror

Global Mirror Either Direction

HyperSwap with Global Mirror

Metro Mirror-Global Mirror w/Site 3 Global Mirror

These sessions can be combined with other PowerHA technologies such as Logical Unit Number (LUN) switching.

Prerequisites for CSM integration

Prerequisites for this implementation include:

  • IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for i Enterprise Edition

  • A system running IBM i 7.2 or later, using independent auxiliary storage pools (IASPs) for data replication

  • 5770-SS1 Base operating system option 3 - Extended Base Directory Support

  • 5770-SS1 Base operating system option 33 - Portable Application Solutions Environment

  • Either two DS8000 storage servers for Metro Mirror or Global Mirror configurations, or three DS8000 storage servers for HyperSwap with Global Mirror

  • IBM Copy Services Manager 6.2.5 or later

Important: PowerHA manages and controls the replication and switching of the external storage environment. Unless directed by IBM support, manual operations performed on the external storage outside of PowerHA are not supported and may result in problems including data loss or corruption.
