Cross-Release Version Compatibility

While the PowerHA version typically matches the IBM i version, later PowerHA versions are capable of running with an N-2 release level. For example, a node with a potential version of 5.x can be in a cluster with a node with a potential version of 3.x. This enables easy and systematic upgrades in a PowerHA environment, rather than needing to upgrade all nodes at once.

The PowerHA modification level (second digit) of the version, changes with program temporary fixes (PTFs) or PTF groups. Once a cluster is at a particular modification level, new fixes and functionality is enabled that may cause data conversions. Therefore, in a mixed-release environment, certain PTFs may be required for the nodes to be at a compatible level. The following tables show this compatibility.

PowerHA 7.5

PowerHA 7.5 has a potential PowerHA version of 5.x. A PowerHA 7.5 node requires a minimum PowerHA version of 3.x and a maximum PowerHA version of 5.x.
