PowerHA for V7R2 and V7R3 is being enhanced to enable support for SVC and Storwize HyperSwap in combination with PowerHA's LUN level switching technology. Prior to this announcement SVC and Storwize HyperSwap was available at the entire system level (without IASP switching and replication technologies). Storwize HyperSwap provides minimal application impact due to a storage outage by utilizing the Storwize clustering technology in Storwize 7.5 or later.
For more information on the Storwize HyperSwap functionality, see the HyperSwap function topic in the Storwize Knowledge Center.
Software Requirements
- IBM i V7R2 TR5 (PowerHA V7R2 PTF Group SF99776 level 6) or IBM i V7R3 TR1 (PowerHA V7R2 PTF Group SF99876 level 3)
- SVC or Storwize code level 7.5 or later (7.6 or later includes GUI support for configuration of HyperSwap volumes)
Note: This functionality is only available on SVC and Storwize devices supporting more than a single I/O group. The Storwize V3700 does not support more than one I/O group and therefore does not support HyperSwap.
Additional Information
FlashCopy Interactions
When combining FlashCopy technology with HyperSwap, there are some restrictions:
- It is not possible to take a FlashCopy onto a HyperSwap volume (the FlashCopy target cannot have the same redundancy the source volumes have)
- Due to the restriction mentioned above, if a HyperSwap volume is the source of a FlashCopy, it is not possible to reverse the FlashCopy. This means:
- The PowerHA STRSVCSSN command must specify RVSCNSGRP(*NONE).
- With the PowerHA CHGSVCSSN command, OPTION(*REVERSE) cannot be used
- Similar to traditional MetroMirror, HyperSwap volumes have a master volume and an auxiliary volume. The master volume resides on one Storwzie control enclosure and the auxiliary volume is on the second control enclosure. PowerHA is only aware of the master volume a FlashCopy can only exist on the Stowize that contains the master volume.
