Native restore commands allow objects, that were saved with dependencies on objects in different libraries, to be restored using the Deferred ID (DFRID) parameter.  The value specified on the DFRID parameter can then be used on the Restore Deferred Objects (RSTDFROBJ) command to rebuild the relationships between objects after all libraries have been restored.

When doing BRMS restores, BRMS will always use the DFRID parameter and follows up the restores by running the RSTDFROBJ command to rebuild the relationships between objects in different libraries.

The following object dependencies are rebuilt when DFRID is used -

  • logical and physical files
  • Users running restores via BRMS, will require authority to the RSTDFROBJ command and requires *SAVSYS special authority. Users may see CPF37C2 if they do not have the correct authority.
  • SQL materialized query tables (MQT) and files
  • journals, journal receivers and journaled objects (in releases IBM i 7.1 and later) - for more information see the Deferred Journal Restore enhancement
Note: In release IBM i 7.1, the following PTF or superseding PTFs are required:
                7.1 requires 5770SS1 PTF SF99701 Level 26
