In releases IBM i 6.1 and later, BRMS can use relational database (RDB) entries for all of its network operations.  Using RDB entries for all BRMS network operations has the following benefits:

• fully qualified domain names (FQDN) can be used for BRMS communications using the Remote location: Name or address attribute
• specific ports can be assigned for BRMS communications using the Port number or service program attribute

To enable RDB entries for all BRMS network operations on a BRMS network, do the following:

• WRKPCYBRM TYPE(*SYS)
• Select option 4 - Change network group
• Set the Communications method field to *RDB

2. In releases IBM i 7.1 and earlier, the Communications method field does not include *RDB in the list of valid values or describe it in the help text but it will allow it to be used for the field.

Changing *LOCAL RDB name

If the *LOCAL RDB name needs to be changed on a system, the following steps should be followed :

1. Verify the system name is what they want the *LOCAL RDB name to be via DSPNETA.   CHGNETA to change that
2. Record the CHGDDMTCPA setting values.
3. Remove the *LOCAL RDB with the RMVRDBDIRE command -- replying G to the CPA3E01 message.  
4. Issue the STRSQL command to get the *LOCAL RDB to automatically be re-added.
5. Set the CHGDDMTCPA settings again.
