7.4 HA 4.2.1 & 7.2 HA 3.4 PTFs

PowerHA for i 7.2 with HA version 3.4 and 7.4 with HA version 4.2.1 brings a new set of enhancements centered around integration and automation including:

  • Simplified updates and upgrades with automated PowerHA and cluster version management.

  • Improvements to the automated management of the administrative domain policy QCST_AD_CREATE in PowerHA 7.4 which now functions even if clustering is inactive or partitioned.

  • PowerHA SQL services for cluster, administrative domain and CRG information provide the ability to explore PowerHA objects and data in new ways.

PowerHA SQL Services

Over time, the method for accessing data has evolved from green screen, to mobile and web applications. However, SQL has become a standard for querying data from relational databases. As a response to this, the IBM i operating system has provided numerous system services that can be accessed through system-provided SQL views, procedures, and functions in order to access, transform, order and subset information without needing to code to a system API.

With HA versions 3.4 and 4.2.1, the support for these services is expanding to include PowerHA information. This initial support includes the following services:

Cluster Services

Administrative Domain Services

Cluster Resource Group Services

Automated Version Management

PowerHA often introduces new features that require running the Change Cluster Version (CHGCLUVER) command to enable the new functionality after all nodes in the PowerHA environment have been upgraded. With HA versions 3.4 and 4.2.1 PowerHA automatically updates the PowerHA version once the upgrade or PTF has been applied to all nodes within the environment. This simplifies the management of the PowerHA environment by eliminating the need to use the CHGCLUVER command.

Administrative Domain Automated Management Enhancements

Improvements to the automated management of the administrative domain policy QCST_AD_CREATE which now functions even when clustering is inactive or partitioned. Previously, when clustering was inactive or partitioned, and a resource covered by the QCST_AD_CREATE policy, a message was sent to the QSYSOPR message queue indicating that the resource was unable to be added to the administrative domain automatically. With this enhancement, resources are automatically added even when clustering is inactive or partitioned.
