BRMS Heritage Navigator for i

In addition to the traditional IBM i green screen command line interface, BRMS can be accessed using the IBM Navigator for i. This GUI is referred to as the heritage Navigator for i.

The BRMS was introduced in V5R1M0 as an optional plug-in for IBM System i Navigator on Windows®. The BRMS client plug-in integrates many of the BRMS backup, recovery, and media management functions into the IBM System i Navigator hierarchy.

BRMS strongly encourages using secure connections by enabling SSL for IBM Navigator for i communications.  For additional information please see Enabling SSL for IBM Navigator for i.

For more information, see the following Information Center topics:

Be aware that:

  • A BRMS client plug-in for release N should not be used with an IBM i system at release N+1.  There are differences in code levels that could cause problems with BRMS database objects when connecting from release N to any subsequent release.  For example, the BRMS 6.1 client plug-in should not be used to connect to an IBM i system at release 7.1 or 7.2.

  • The BRMS 6.1 client plug-in is not supported at releases IBM i 7.1 and later.

  • A BRMS client plug-in for release N can be used with iNav client for release N-1 to connect to an IBM i system at release N.
