Transfer Media From the Cloud

Media can be moved to different locations using several different BRMS interfaces, for example WRKMEDBRM option 2, WRKMEDBRM option 8, MOVMEDBRM, STRMNTBRM MOVMED(*YES), the BRMS GUI client, etc. When media is moved from a cloud location, the move will cause the media to be transferred from the cloud to the system.

When a restore is attempted from media that is currently at a cloud location, BRMS will automatically transfer the media to the system and perform the restore. After BRMS restores from the media, it will NOT automatically move the media back to the cloud location. If the media is associated with a move policy then movement processing will cause the media to be moved back to the cloud location the next time movement is run.

NOTES

  1. When media is transferred from the cloud, it is not deleted from the cloud. For more information see section Cloud storage utilization.

  2. If the cloud data is being retained on the system, the media will not need to be transferred back to the system and the media location will simply be changed to the new location. For more information see section System storage utilization.

  3. When an individual object or library is restored from media that is at a cloud location, the entire volume or set of volumes from the save will be transferred from the cloud to the system.

  4. If a restore fails with message BRM61FE reason code 0007, it indicates there is not enough storage to transfer the media from a cloud location to the system and then perform the restore.

  5. When using smaller tape volume sizes, there are reporting limitations in BRMS if more than 50 volumes are used for the backup. If more the 50 volumes are used, the Media_Set_Info table function may be used to return the serial media set information.
