Restoring IFS data

There are numerous options available to restore IFS data. Depending on what options were taken to save the IFS data will depend on what options are available to restore the IFS data.

Options available are

  • WRKLNKBRM
  • STRRCYBRM
  • RSTBRM
  • WRKMEDIBRM

In order to restore individual files in directories, object level detail needs to be saved at the time of the save. Restoring directories, generally does not require object level detail to be saved.

NOTES:

  1. When using RSTBRM, empty directories cannot be restored using BRMS. Users will need to use one of the other options available
  2. When saving Network Server Descriptions (NWSD) or Network Storage Spaces (NWSSTG)  that are varied off, a single directory is saved and individual objects will not be listed in the BRMS data base. Using RSTBRM to restore for this directory will fail with BRM1688 message.
  3. When using RSTBRM, if restoring directories, '/directory_name/*' needs to be used
  4. When using RSTBRM with generics, the wild card is only allowed at the end of the path name, for example '/dir/abc*' is valid. Using a generic in the middle of the path name, for example '/dir/*abc' is not valid in BRMS and will fail with CPD3755 message.
  5. When using RSTBRM, the path name is case sensitive.
