PowerHA Policies

Policies control specific behaviors related to clustering and HA environments. Each policy has a name with additional information that identifies the individual policy, including the domain, such as the name of an administrative domain, or a cluster resource group (CRG) that the policy controls. Policies also contain qualifiers that identify the individual instance of that policy and extend or limit the scope of the policy's management functions. For additional information on policies see Managing PowerHA Policies.

Saving and Restoring PowerHA Policies

PowerHA policies may not be handled as anticipated with system save, restore and migration operations. We recommend using the Save PowerHA Policy (SAVHAPCY) command to save PowerHA policies to an IFS file and the Restore PowerHA Policy (RSTHAPCY) command to add PowerHA policies from an IFS file.

It is recommended to verify PowerHA policies are defined as expected after the recovery or migration of a system to ensure policies are configured as expected. Since policies are cluster-wide, depending on the process followed, a system recovery or migration can result in unexpected changes in policies.

Below is a summary of policies that are available, a description of each policy, and which PTF(s) are required for a given policy. A PTF of 'base' indicates that the policy is available in the base release without additional PTFs.

Administrative Domain Policies

QCST_AD_CREATE

Specifies which resources will be added automatically to the specified cluster administrative domain when the resource is created.

Base

QCST_AD_RESTORE

Specifies that when restoring a resource that is monitored by the administrative domain, that the restore of attributes shall be honored. Normally, resources with a MRE in the cluster administrative domain which are restored are immediately updated to match the attribute values in the cluster administrative domain, essentially ignoring the restore operation.

QCST_AD_DELETE

Automates and simplifies management of the removal of monitored resources and their respective MREs from a cluster. A resource deleted on one node of the cluster administrative domain will be automatically deleted on all other active cluster nodes. Once the resource has been deleted on all cluster nodes, the MRE for the resource is also removed from the cluster administrative domain.

QHA_AD_ANZCADPRF

Specifies policies for use in conjunction with the ANZCADPRF command to enable PowerHA to determine if profiles have been inactive for the specified number of days within a PowerHA environment by utilizing distributed information across a cluster administrative domain.
